Abstract
This document provides my current thoughts on the structure, organization, and content of my analysis on the poem entitled Prière d’un petit enfant nègre by Guy Triolien. For my presentation I would like to explain the negritude movement and the impact that the movement had on the francophone world.
Guy Triolien is a francophone poet from Guadeloupe. He belongs to the negritude movement along with Léopard Sédar Senghor, Aimé Césaire, and Léon Gontran Damas. The negritude movement is a literary and ideological movement, developed by francophone black intellectuals, writers, and politicians in France during the 1930s.
In Guy Triolien’s poem Prière d’un petit enfant nègre Triolien formats the poem to represent a prayer. The prayer demonstrates the power of the negritude movement. Triolien uses literary terminology to demonstrate the paradox of the prayer. The young boy in Guy Triolien's poem faces the troubles of living in two worlds that are distinctly different. The two worlds' distinct difference is being black versus being white. The first world is a world of the francophone people oppressed by the French colonists, and forced into slavery. The second world is a world of the French colonists that rule over the oppressed.
Guy Triolien demonstrates his strong emotions about the negritude movement through the poem Prière d’un petit enfant nègre. The negritude movement is a movement that instilled a big impact on in the francophone world with influence from the United States Harlem renaissance.
