Abstract

Presentation by this year's keynote speaker, Joyce Kinkead. In 2012, the Council on Undergraduate Research named Kinkead a CUR Fellow, the first humanist to be so honored, for her significant impact both as a scholar and a leader. At Utah State University, she was named Researcher of the Year for her college. Nationally and internationally, her work is known for its impact on undergraduate research, in general, and in English Studies, in particular. Valuing and Supporting Undergraduate Research (Jossey-Bass, 2003) laid the groundwork for that reputation, and has been cited more than 100 times. Although in an administrative role for 20 years, Kinkead never ceased being an active scholar. Her three most recent books join a group of seven others, one of which—The Center Will Hold—received national awards from two different organizations. The latest three volumes—Undergraduate Offices & Programs; Advancing Undergraduate Research; and Undergraduate Research in English Studies—cemented Kinkead’s reputation as a leading scholar on undergraduate research. A member of the College Communication and Composition’s undergraduate research committee, she also was elected and served as a councilor in CUR’s division of undergraduate research program directors. Kinkead is currently at work on her fourth book in as many years: Researching Writing: An Introduction to Research Methods in Writing Studies.
