Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the potential effects of the consolidation on the accreditation standards of North Georgia College & State University and Gainesville State College. Twenty-one interviews were conducted between the faculties of both institutions (representing eight different programs) to assess faculty expectations of the effects of the consolidation within various departments. Interviews were also used to gather information about the relevant accrediting bodies and their requirements. Although the current knowledge base of the consolidation process is limited, there were no definitive answers to the questions posed in the interviews. We drew some tentative conclusions from the faculty’s speculations. While the various departments between the two schools may fall under different accrediting bodies, some departments are beginning to work together. Several of the interviewees felt that the consolidation would be beneficial in terms of resources gained and shared terminal degree faculty members. However, it was also apparent that the differing accrediting bodies and standards among associated departments may pose a challenge to the implementation of the consolidation.
