Abstract
The Oshosi, Silent Sentinel of the Swamp aims to allow the audience to step into a fictional world where wondering titans exist just beyond the grasp of science and technology. Through a series of fake newspaper articles, fabricated Polaroid snapshots, and "an artists interpretation" sculpture of the beast, an illusion of "what ifs" is conjured between the viewer and the story being told. The Oshosi draws on a natural fascination with the paranormal and unknown. It plays on both the literal aspect of something lurking just beyond the shadows cast by the setting sun and the philosophical illusion of outward appearance. In this fictional world the Oshosi is seen as a terrifying beast that stalks the backwoods of the United States. In reality the creature lives a more secluded and peaceful life as watchful guardian of the marsh.
Viewers are left to draw their own conclusions and opinions on the Oshosi and its true intentions as a very real aspect of our day to day prejudice.
