Abstract

Merigan Thomas

Conference Project

I have traveled to Flower Mountain for the past three years. I have been able to help with numerous things including surgeries, dental work, building homes, and handling school supplies. During this time, I have seen multiple instances of change as it relates to the Tolupan Indian tribe and how they interact with the American people that visit them. Throughout the paper I will discuss the relationship between prayer and medicine, and how these importance factors influence the Tolupanes. Also, Through my first hand ethnographic accounts I will be able to distinguish and compare how the Tolupanes have seen prayer and medicine over the past years. Throughout the years the locals have been receiving medical treatment with prayer, and religious readings. Throughout my presentation. I will use my first hand experiences, and other leaders on the trips opinion to help deceiver how the locals view religion with medicine. This presents itself as changing because of the influence the medicine has on the tolupanes religion and vice versa.
