Abstract

The 1991 edition of the North Georgia College Cyclops, a student yearbook produced under the college presidency of Dr. John H. Owen (1922-2011), the twelfth president of the school, and a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy during World War II. During his tenure, which began in 1970, the enrollment of North Georgia College (now the University of North Georgia) nearly tripled, thanks to having produced more course offerings and programs, having integrated the campus in 1967, and having enrolled women military cadets beginning in 1973. These yearbooks show the changes in the student body population, the shifting regional demographics, and the expansion of faculty and staff hired during this period of growth for the school.
