Abstract

Watercolor on paper, 22" x 30"

My work deals with the lingering question of the presence of absence in life. How does one accept loss in life while embracing growth? How can the two opposites possibly fit together? I see a clue to this dilemma, visually, in the structure of notan design, which interlocks the positive and negative realms together to suggest a third space, one that is apparent and undeniable yet logically 'not there.' It is the 'not there' that intrigues me most, and the space my work focuses upon articulating. Anarchanesia is a composite word that suggest a mystical space, something out of place and time, something forgotten, yet omnipresent.
