Una mascarilla multicultural

My idea connects to the Spanish culture because the artist I chose to model my art after is famous in Spain and other Hispanic countries for his art and art style. (Artist: Fernando Botero)

Fernando Botero was a Spanish artist that created paintings with objects in them that were not to scale. Often times things were blown out of proportion in the paintings or even misshapen. I intend on creating mine on Botero-Like creation.

San Miguel de Allende

For my craft, I made earrings in the shape of the Huichol Flower using beads. The Huichol people are indigenous people of Mexico that live in central northwest states of Navarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Durango. I spent 2 hours making each earring. I spent roughly 50 dollars on all of the materials to make the earrings.

On this piece, I spent three weeks doing around ten portraits, with each being different sizes. Each reflect personal interest, along with references to paintings by Diego Velazquez.The concept of this art was derived from a song by the Beatles- one of my favorite bands- titled ‘Lovely Rita’. This made for a play on words, as the main subject of the art was Enfanta Margarita, of Velazquez’s ’Las Meninas’. The primary tool I used was a wooden palette and acrylics.

For my craft I decided to make Seed Bead Bracelets. I'm not a very crafty person nor am I any good at crafting but these bracelets only took me about ten minutes to make. To make these I used seed beads and string called wildfire.

This project was completed over a cumulative three days of painting, completed on canvas. Acrylics were used, and elements of the painting derived lots of inspiration from Salvador Dali’s work. Concepts and setting were taken largely from many of Dal’s art, including butterflies, a windmill, a forties car, and desert setting.

La Belleza de la Cultura Mexicana

This painting was created over the course of a week, and took several hours to complete (approximate ten). The primary inspiration behind this piece was Salvador Dali’s work, and I attempted to use aspects of his painting to create a surrealist piece. In the piece, an easel is visible, holding a head with blank eyes and a birdcage for a head. A snail and gulls are present, along with an octopus slightly obscured in the corner. There is a beach, and a key in the ocean behind it. This key symbolizes imagination, which can unlock endless possibilities through the mind. Acrylics and canvas were used to construct this piece.
