The Cumming campus library hosts an annual art exhibit to increase engagement levels of students and to involve them in scholarly activities. The exhibit displayed student, faculty, and staff submissions on campus. The artists submitted their work digitally through the Nighthawks Open Institutional Repository (NOIR). When the physical exhibit opened in the library, a digital exhibit opened on NOIR. The project had three main goals: measure the impact of the event, encourage student involvement in scholarly activities, and teach digital/information literacy skills. Surveys were conducted during the show of both the artists and attendees. The librarians also shared links to scholarly publications and conferences that accept art submissions. Through the submission process the students began thinking critically about their work. The submission form required them to assign keywords to their work and write a brief artist statement about their piece. Data collected via surveys from the event participants attempted to measure the impact that the event had on awareness of library services by participants. Going forward we plan to host the exhibit annually and anticipate that participation will continue to grow each year.

Library art exhibits as an engagement tool

In the summer of 2020, I received a Presidential Award to help with researching and writing my next novel, When the Stars Threw Down Their Spears. An important part of the research was learning about the relationships between the Cherokee and the Moravians in north Georgia at the turn of the 19th century. At first, I wanted to write journals true to the spirit, but not the facts, of the Moravian journals. Then, however, I decided that since we have the Moravian side of the story already, trying to tell, through creative dramatization, the Cherokee side would be much more interesting, especially given the ways the Moravians left an indelible mark on the Cherokee, though they largely failed as missionaries. This video presentation briefly discusses my process and gives an example of the creative process at work.

Ransomware is a special type of malware, which infects a system and limits a user’s access to the system and its resources until a ransom is paid. In the past few years, this malware has become popular among cybercriminals and it is regarded as a billion-dollar industry. Cybercriminals launch ransomware attack to extort money. Some of the most recent well-known ransomware include WannaCry, Petya and Bad Rabbit. WannaCry attacked known Windows network vulnerabilities using various exploits, which allowed an intruder to execute arbitrary code on a targeted system by transmitting customized data packets. WannaCry made global headlines after infecting more than 230,000 systems in over 150 countries and causing an estimated $5 billion in damages. Like WannaCry, Petya used Windows vulnerabilities to propagate itself. It impacted large organizations in multiple countries with billions of dollars damage. Another example of rapidly growing ransomware is Bad Rabbit, which appeared shortly after the WannaCry and Petya ransomware families, made headlines. Bad Rabbit targeted Ukraine’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Kiev’s public transport system.
 The objective of this research is to use various tools and techniques to hunt ransomware using memory forensics. We create a virtual network environment for ransomware execution and analysis. Through memory analysis we examine the behaviors of various ransomware to examine their activities while they are inside the memory of the infected machine. Based on their behaviors, we propose and implement a framework for detection and prevention of ransomware. The proposed framework monitors the ransomware processes using various Volatility plugins software tool. These plugins examine the ransomware processes and display actions taken by ransomware once they infect the machine. They actions may include encrypting files, renaming themselves to avoid detection by antivirus software, changing file names, etc., Based on these behaviors, we develop the framework for preventing ransomware from spreading and infecting the entire machine. Our proposed framework would complement some of the existing ransomware research in various ways including the environment, the tools, ransomware dataset and the structure.

RANSOMWARE DETECTION AND PREVENTION USING MEMORY FORENSICS

The Pathways Commission started work in 2010 to develop and implement recommendations to improve accounting education and to attract high-quality diverse entrants to the accounting profession. This project utilizes oral history techniques and recorded interviews to investigate the perceptions of success regarding Pathways from participants in the effort. Structured interview techniques contributed to findings regarding successes and disappointments related to Pathways from 25 contributors to Pathways, including three AAA past presidents, a former Chief Accountant of the Securities and Exchange Commission, past presidents of AACSB, NASBA, and the Institute of Internal Auditors, and other representatives from industry, accounting practice, and academia. Recorded interviews will be published through the Library of the Accounting Profession at the University of Mississippi.

From Pathways to Envisined Gateways: A Retrospective Look at the Pathways Commission Initiative after Ten Years

In Fall 2018, the USG mandated that all remediation would be done in a co-requisite format requiring students to take the Learning Support class (099X-level classes) simultaneously with their Gateway class (1XXX-level classes). In response to this change, the USG set new criteria for placement using measures such as the Math Placement Index (MPI) to determine in which math pathway a student will begin. The Oconee campus offers two co-requisite pairings; MATH 0997/1001-Quantitative Skills and Reasoning, recommended for students in non-STEM pathways, and MATH 0999/1111-College Algebra, required for students in STEM pathways. STEM co-requisites MATH 0999/1111 require a higher Mathematics Placement Index (MPI) than non-STEM MATH 0997/1001. Many STEM students do not have a high enough MPI to place into MATH 0999/1111, resulting in STEM students having to take non-STEM co-requisites before beginning their STEM math classes. This delay is made worse by the fact that MATH 0997/1001 curriculum does little to prepare students for MATH 0999/1111.
According to studies cited by the Dana Center, the addition of non-STEM math classes for STEM students is in direct opposition to research that suggests that co-requisite education works best or is most beneficial when students follow the appropriate pathway for their major.1 We created a College Algebra Boot Camp on the Oconee Campus to help students re-test into MATH 0999/1111 by bridging gaps in their knowledge of algebra. We used funds from the Presidential Summer Incentive Award to produce mathematics instructional videos for use in the boot camp. The first College Algebra Boot Camp ran during the Fall 2020 semester and utilized a flipped classroom environment to help students remediate deficiencies and accelerate the learning required to experience success in College Algebra. In the end, six of the fifteen students successfully completed the Boot Camp and are currently enrolled in College Algebra.

College Algebra Boot Camp: Initial Implementation

In this mixed methods descriptive study, we explicitly connected the key concepts of diversity from course readings in a senior capstone course to culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) to meet curricular goals through the provision of service in a project that takes place in an elementary school where the students are placed for their final student teaching internships. 
Research questions:
How do pre-service teachers:
● characterize the amount and importance of culturally relevant pedagogy in their coursework, internship, and future classrooms/teaching?
● characterize the amount and importance of service learning projects in their coursework, internship, and future classrooms/teaching?
● who engage in service learning describe the likelihood of incorporating service learning in their own future classrooms?
● describe their perceptions of students with diverse backgrounds and characteristics after engaging in service learning?
● describe service learning and culturally relevant pedagogy after implementing a service learning project?
Participants:
● Seniors (n=66; Female = 63 )

Outcomes:
The service learning projects had mutual benefits for both pre-service teachers and students. In addition, the pre-service teachers indicated that they wanted to implement service learning projects in their own future classrooms. The connection of SLP to CRP helped students think about and decide on instructional strategies and methods to utilize that would best meet the needs of participants
 Discussion:
As a next step, we would like to implement virtual service learning projects that expand out into the greater community and add a student-led symposium to the course to share their findings. Inviting key stakeholders, such as teachers and administrators from the internship schools, to a student-led symposium provides our students with an opportunity to increase the impact of this project by sharing their findings with a wider audience.

Incorporating Culturally Relevant Pedagogy in a Service Learning Project

With the outbreak of the Coronavirus, crisis leadership has been, and continues to be, a driving force for decision making, budgeting, and forecasting strategic next steps in higher education. This presentation addresses crisis leadership specifically in higher education within the confines of the Coronavirus and is delivered in three specific focus areas. Starting with shared governance, this presentation addresses the American Association of Professors (AAUP) recommendations for active shared governance working to anticipate the needs of the higher education institution constituency, while engaging in immediate and consistent leadership amidst the pandemic. Transitioning to the next focused area of this presentation, crisis management and leadership are reviewed through defining their unique elements and characteristics. Third, this presentation drills down to a micro level example and specifically considers remote leadership in response to emergency remote teaching. Overall, this presentation serves to highlight the dialogue regarding crisis leadership in higher education and the ongoing emergency preparedness and leadership constructs defining governance during this pandemic

Leadership Approaches, Styles, & Theories During Times of Crisis.

Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy afflicting the lives of men worldwide. Prostate cancer has two stages, androgen dependent and androgen independent. In the androgen dependent stage, the prostate cancer can be treated by hormone depletion therapy. In androgen independent stage the hormone depletion therapy does not work. The only available treatment for androgen independent prostate cancer is FDA approved chemotherapy drug docetaxel. Patients initially respond to docetaxel and then they become resistant to it. The cells that are resistant to docetaxel express cancer stem cell markers and represent the population of cancer stem cells. The goal of this project is to analyze some chemicals found in natural products as treatment for docetaxel resistant prostate cancer cells. Analysis is being done by molecular docking using tools like Chimera and Autodock Vina. MIC1 and BCL2 are the proteins which get overexpressed in response to docetaxel resistance and are used as receptors in the study. This project involves using the natural products which are well tolerated by human body for solving the problem of drug resistance in prostate cancer cells and developing an effective treatment for this deadly disease.

The Nationally Competitive Scholarships "Bootcamp" Course is a LEAP Grant-funded course that guides students through the process of applying for nationally competitive scholarships. Students draft application essays, engage with offices, programs, and departments on campus, and explore undergraduate research opportunities. The course encourages students to use LEAP ideas and tools, including creative and critical thinking skills and information literacy. Students will learn more about how to articulate their personal narratives and aspirations. This presentation provides an overview of the course and the course goals.

Nationally Competitive Scholarships "Bootcamp" Course

Prior literature indicates that the demand for life insurance is affected by household portfolios and household characteristics. This paper is the first attempt to relate life insurance demand to household portfolio holdings in a dynamic framework by analyzing panel data. This paper explores the effect of household portfolio holdings and life events on changes in the ownership and the holdings of life insurance during the 2008 financial crisis. The results imply that household portfolio holdings are more important than life events in explaining changes in life insurance ownership during financial crisis. The results suggest that investment in equity and bond is complementary rather than a substitute for the ownership of life insurance, and also show an ambiguous relationship between life insurance ownership decisions and new debt application. The examination of changes in life insurance holdings indicates that households investing more in bond drop significantly a larger amount of term life insurance. In terms of life events, the results show that employment, retirement, family size, and marital status have significant and dynamic effects on life insurance demand.

A Dynamic Analysis of the Demand for Life Insurance during the 2008 Financial Crisis

Background/Introduction
The use of movement screening has grown in popularity. The purpose of movement screening is to uncover variables that may increase an individual’s opportunity for injury, that with rehabilitation intervention may be reduced. Previously completed research shows that the majority of participants (athletic trainers practicing at the collegiate and university setting) do not use squat based gradable movement screens (SBGMS) in their clinical practice.
Purpose
To discover why participants do not use SBGMS clinically
Design/Methods
This qualitative study was completed using open ended responses to an electronically delivered survey. Qualitative data collected in the open-ended questions of a survey was analyzed using an inductive content analysis approach, which is simple and useful when studying a new phenomenon.1
Results/Outcomes
Participants were given a fill-in box to further explain their lack of SBGMS use. There were 97 participant responses to this question, with a total of 125 different comments. Reviewing for themes in these responses, the investigator found the following: 63 (50.4%) responded they had some kind of “lack of knowledge” that affects their use of SBGMS. Nineteen participants (15.2%) responded they had some kind of “lack of time” while 16 (12.8%) responded with “miscellaneous” reasons. Further responses include the participants use some kind of different methods, 14 (11.2%), other athletic staff personnel completed screening, and observation of athletes during conditioning exercises. Eight participants (6.4%), responded they had some kind of lack of resources which includes a lack of equipment, not enough staff, too many athletes, and not a large enough budget. Finally, 5 (4%) participant responses were related to research and evidence being a to explain their lack of SBGMS use.
Discussion/Conclusions
One of the questions related to this project relates to why athletic trainers were not using SBGMS in their clinical practice. The majority of these responses are related to some kind of lack of supportive resource.2 This can include lack of knowledge or credentialing, lack of time, or lack or resources. Collectively these responses when open coded for themes represent 90 out of 97 total responses (93%). The most frequently used theme discovered from this simple qualitative analysis was SBGMS use is limited when there is a lack of knowledge.

Why Athletic Trainers Do Not Use Squat Based Gradable Movement Screens

In the US, more and more our healthcare systems are causing harm at multiple levels with inferior quality of services, poor access at times to care and costly treatments. Underlying this is, albeit unconscious, a lack of respect for patients. We try to address this by proffering a new model of care co-ordination to support high value patient–centered care delivery. The presented model was developed by synthesizing relevant literature and assessing this literature based on current problems and barriers in existing models of care. The following, presents an encircled care contribution measure share model that enables patient centered value-based care to ensue. The proposed model identifies objective tracking of all clinical services by stakeholder input/feedback measures and from this inherent value and quality can be identified.
